Criteria for Scholarship Application

Our emphasis is on selecting girls from diverse cultural and religious backgrounds, from families without financial resources to pay for their education. We select and commit to giving fully paid scholarships to girls who meet the following;

  1. Excellent Academic performance
  2. Financial need: economic and financial situation of the applicant and family
  3. Admission to one of the 14 schools in the program within East Africa

Most of the students we support come from the following backgrounds

  • Single-parent families
  • Large number of children in the family
  • Orphans
  • Subsistence agriculture and casual labor

GTL is committed to continue scholarship support to scholars who maintain their academic performance in the top 50% of their class.

We believe that East Africa can build on successes and improve access to schools that have seen primary school age children, out of school, decrease from 32% to 8% between 2002 and 2011. We work to support girls go beyond primary school and make sure that those successes reach girls in most underserved regions in rural areas.
