Changing lives – A GTL graduate story & #GTLTurns25Video

Dear Friend of GTL,

I am excited and honored to be speaking at the 25th Anniversary celebrations on October 21, 2022. I am a GTL Alum, having received a scholarship for high school and college education from 2004 to 2013. I am a graduate of the University of Dodoma, in Tanzania.  The encouragement I received from GTL Coordinators and board members is a main factor towards my success.

I am a mother of 2 daughters, a wife, and a small business owner. When I was thirteen years old, I found out about GTL from a family friend and on that day, my life changed completely.  I come from a pastoralist community in Tanzania, where the norm is that a baby girl is betrothed at birth to a family locally, bride price is paid, and when she turns twelve or thirteen, she is married off.  This was to be my destiny, but luck was on my side when GTL came into my life and helped educate me through high school and college.

I am the founder of Muraa Safaris.  A tour company that organizes safaris for visitors throughout Tanzania. As a little girl, I dreamt of creating something of my own, something huge, something that seemed impossible, something that could make me proud, and make the entire GTL community proud, I did it.  I have made my community proud too.  It has been a challenge, especially in the last 2 years, during the pandemic. However, I can support myself, my family, my children, and the community that surrounds me.  I am tangible proof to my community that educating women pays off, and if you educate a girl/ a woman you educate the whole community.

I am looking forward to seeing you all in person and to thank you for the positive impact you have had in my life.

I pledge to support GTL and humbly call on you to join me in doing so, and to donate today to support a girl like me and secure her future.
