Dear Friend of GTL,
GTL is celebrating 25 years of educating girls and young women in East Africa this year. The organization has experienced remarkable growth since its modest beginnings in 1998, when 32 scholarships were offered. We have awarded over 340 scholarships this year, that includes over 100 new students. We commit to a 4 or 6 year full scholarship to every scholar who gets into the program, as long as they keep their grades up.
We have over 1,700 girls who have graduated from high school with a diploma in the last 25 years. We thank you, for your continued generous contribution. Please donate at www.growththroughlearning.org. We continue to work hard, with your support, to provide full high school education scholarships for exceptional young women in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. The value of girls’ education is well known, but fewer girls attend high school in East East Africa and even fewer graduate. We celebrate all our alumnae, as they change their families and communities for the better through their social and economic contribution.
We are planning to hold the 25th anniversary celebrations at the THEODORE PARKER UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHURCH, 1859 Center St, West Roxbury, MA 02132 on October 22, starting at 6 pm.
The event at the church’s sanctuary will include multiple speakers, as well as slides and video clips with sound, and a gallery of photos. Speakers include GTL’s Executive Director, Wanjiku K Mwangi, Board President, Mary Ann Millsap, as well as special guests (Mercy Kinyodah, GTL’s Digital Communications and Program Manager, who is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and Irene Adiel, GTL alum from Tanzania and small business owner. After the program, a reception with light refreshments and music will be held in the parish hall.
Please look out for an invitation in your emails and in your mail in the next few months.
Yours Sincerely.
Wanjiku K Mwangi
Executive Director
